Tutukaka to Ngunguru Shared Path
The Tutukaka Coast Ratepayers and Residents Association has established a community working group to develop and implement a plan to connect the coast from Sandy Bay through to Whangarei for walking and cycling.

The trail between Opua and Russell is a community-led project with significant volunteer hours already having been committed to this trail which will ultimately provide a new shared path for cyclists and runners to travel on to Hōreke (via the Pou Herenga Trail).
The grade 2-3 trail, which is already used by Te Araroa walkers, would run between the Waitangi Mountain Bike Park and Kerikeri township. It would complement the Pou Herenga Tai Cycle Trail, allowing for increased length of experience and opportunity to explore the popular and culturally historic destinations of Kerikeri, Waitangi, Pahia and Russell in the Bay of Islands.
This trail would link the Kaihu Valley trail in the south to the Pou Herenga Tai Trail in the north via the Waotu Coach Trail.
Creating a 12 km (approx.) shared path between Langs Beach and Mangawhai will be a community collaboration between the Wairahi Tracks Charitable Trust based in Langs Beach and the Mangawhai Charitable Trust.
The Wairahi Tracks Charitable Trust is part of a wider community group of track developers who have come together under the umbrella of The Piroa Trails Group (PTG) whose main goal is to establish a shared user path linking Waipu in the north to Mangawhai in the south.
This is a community-driven project on behalf of the residents of One Tree Point, Marsden Cove, and Ruakaka and aims to provide an alternative safe shared pathway route between the three communities. This community group has been working on this initiative for over 3 years.
