Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of affiliation?

Affiliates benefit from the lobbying work of the Trust for cycling and walking safety and infrastructure.

By joining together as like-minded organisations, the walking and cycling community presents a stronger and more unified voice in lobbying locally and nationally for better recognition and resources.

Affiliates will be eligible for sponsorships and grants made available through the Trust from Sport Northland and Sport New Zealand, e.g., Kauri Club Scholarships where applicable.

The Trust will share relevant resources and information it receives through its affiliation with Sport Northland and other local and national bodies.

Affiliated groups will have the opportunity to be included on this page. Our website includes both formal groups and clubs as well as community groups working on developing walking and cycling trails across Te Tai Tokerau.

Affiliates will receive priority access to container storage space at the Pohe Island Bike Park, subject to availability.

There is no cost, but we do ask you to supply a few details about your group or club. You can apply here.

Affiliation is open to all groups that share similar charitable objectives and support the Trust’s purpose.

Bike and Hike Northland continues to act as a representative body for cycling in Te Tai Tokerau through the relationships that Bike Northland has built over the past 6 years with organisations such as Sport Northland, WDC and Cycling NZ. If anything, this reach will be greater given the increase in trustees and geographical spread of the trustees. For athletes wanting to compete at a national level, they will need to be a member of the relevant club (BMX, MTB, or road cycling), and these clubs are affiliated with the national/parent body.

Not legally, but all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that affiliates are kept up to date with the actions of the Trust.

Northland has plenty of options for cyclists of any flavour, with something in most parts of our region. Check out our Where to Cycle page. We list everything from mountain bike parks to multi-day and day rides, from expert to those suitable for the whole family.

If your club, group or organisation is planning a cycling, walking or hiking event, or if you are arranging a public working bee for your local trail, please tell us about it so that we can add it to our website calendar and also promote it via our Facebook page. Once live, you can link to it via your own social media promotion. Use our form to make sure that you provide all the key detail.
