Cycle Skills Training Programme Agreement

Northland Cycle Training Skills Programme Support Agreement

A memorandum of agreement is a written agreement put in place to establish a clear understanding of how an arrangement will practically function and each party’s role and responsibilities.

The Memorandum of Agreement allows all involved to concretely see that they agree to the same thing and to be a tangible reference to review should any misinterpretation arise during the arrangement.

1. Background

The cycle skills training programme is delivered by Bike and Hike Northland. The programme is based on the national Bike Ready bike skills guidelines. Outcomes include more young people with bike riding as a viable transport choice. Participation in bike skills training adds an authentic context for learning. Teachers and students can explore wellbeing (hauora), empathy, the transport system and active citizenship. Bike Ready aligns with the New Zealand Curriculum, physical activity guidelines and the National Administration Guidelines.

The principal aims of this programme are to address the low levels of fundamental cycling skills, cycle safety awareness of the primary and intermediate school-aged population.

2. Aims

1. Promote the importance of learning cycle safety and bike riding.

2. Coordinate the provision of appropriate cycle training in Northland Primary and Intermediate Schools.
